Year 1 enjoyed a wonderful trip to the Golden Hinde as part of their pirate topic. They met the master of the boat and said an oath to become part of the pirate crew. The children explored the boat and learned all about life on board, including the fact that touching wood before going below deck and never washing were seen as good luck. They also found out that children as young as five were used as cabin boys and drank watered down beer. The children made fantastic pirates but were happy to walk back onto solid ground and leave the reality of a gruelling pirate life behind!
