Yesterday in Year 5’s science lesson the class was identifying what a year is. The children looked at the different planets which orbit the sun, the length of their years and how astronomers first worked out how many days were in a year. They were able to do this by using stars in the sky as markers and counting the number of sunsets it took for the star to return to its original position. Many years ago they even thought that it was the sun which orbited the Earth!
