Our in-house code-breaking event this term, Enigma Day, went very well. Each class tackled three unique challenges which, when successfully solved, provided a code to unlock part of a cipher. As well as employing their maths, reasoning and problem-solving skills, the children learned about different ciphers and codes used throughout history, from the notorious Caesar Cipher used by Julius Caesar, through to the Pigpen and Vigenère Cipher, the latter invented by 16th-century cryptographer Blaise de Vigenère.
