Pastoral Care

Pastoral care is a co-pillar with academic achievement at PGP. Every child’s welfare is important to us and we aim to provide everyone with a happy and secure environment in which to learn and develop. Children are taught the value of good manners and mutual respect from the moment they arrive; they are kind and supportive to each other.

Teachers have primary responsibility for the wellbeing of the children in their class, both as individuals and as a group. Children are also aware of the many other adults they can go to if they need to, from the heads of pastoral care, pre-prep, teachers, assistants and the Head. The structure of our school allows children to make good friends across the classes and be known to all full-time teachers and assistants.

We take bullying very seriously and in the unlikely event that it does happen we always deal with it promptly and sensitively, in line with our Anti-Bullying Policy (click here to read it). We work closely with children, for example, through the Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic (PSHCE) education curriculum, allowing them to explore their feelings and to know that they have a voice. Our small classes, close relationships and open ethos allow children to share any concerns they may have.
