Half-term and beyond in the art world
Our wonderful art teacher, Miss Alison, put together two of the best art exhibitions and general tips from the Tate for this Autumn half-term and beyond, in case your children are looking to be inspired and amazed.
The Hayward Gallery
The Hayward Gallery’s latest exhibition sees five thematic zones displaying South Korean artist Haegue Yang’s work across installation, sculpture, collage, video and other mediums. On until 5 January 2025.

The Royal Academy
Fusing elements of pop, minimalism and conceptual art, Michael Craig-Martin’s work transforms recognisable objects using vibrant colours and simple lines, reflecting contemporary life from the perspective of the everyday items that shape it. On until 10 December.

Creative Writing Week
An exciting surprise for Parsons Green Prep pupils this week as clues were spotted around the school in preparation for Creative Writing Week. Each class will be reading The Midnight Panther by Poonam Mistry to create their very own piece of writing. We can’t wait to see what everyone will come up with!
Year 1 visits the Science Museum
Year 1 visited the Science Museum as part of their ‘Journeys’ topic. The pupils were amazed by the range of artefacts displayed in the gallery and worked diligently to locate the items in a scavenger hunt. They were in awe of the piece of rock from the moon. Year 1 also took part in a space workshop where they learnt how astronauts prepare for space, including the properties of spacesuits and even how astronauts go to the loo in space. Fantastic curiosity and enthusiasm shown on our first Year 1 trip – well done.
Football vs the Roche
Year 3 hosted the Roche School in two football matches at Hurlingham Park. The children played some excellent football but Roche School took the wins 5-0 and 4-1. Year 4 travelled to Wandsworth Park and played three competitive matches, with PGP achieving a fantastic 3-0 win and narrow 3-2 and 2-0 losses. Well done to everyone for an excellent afternoon of football. You can read more about sport at PGP here.
Picasso
This week Year 2 have been looking at the work of Pablo Picasso. They studied his abstract portraits and we discussed how he played around with the direction and position of features on the face. They stuck coloured paper shapes to a face and added detail, texture and pattern using pastels, felt tips and pencils.
Year 4 visit the Natural History Museum
Year 4 had a fantastic time at The Natural History Museum. We learnt all about how earthquakes occur and the devastation caused by volcanic eruptions. We loved exploring all the exhibitions and taking part in our natural disaster workshop.
