This exciting art club is taking a trip around the world by looking at the art of various cultures. Each week we will explore a different society and how it expresses and represents itself through its local art. The children will study and replicate the beautiful colours and patterns of African weaving with chalk pastels and geometric Rangoli sand designs from India. They will integrate the shapes of Canadian First Nations art to make the ferocious animals of the Haida people and learn about pointillism with paint to create Australian Aboriginal art. Equipped with their new knowledge, they will produce a piece of work in the style of that culture. Each piece will be in the form of a single tile and at the end of the term we will combine the tiles to create a beautiful, global mural.
