Impressing the Sunaks, joining the Kew and brushing those teeth

Year 6 pupil impresses the ex-Prime Minister

We are very proud of one of our amazing Year 6 pupils, who had a stall at the Children’s Business Fair Pop-up in Guildford. Former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and wife Akshata Murty attended the fair in celebration of National Numeracy Day.

Rishi and Akshata spent over 90 minutes speaking with (and buying from) each of the young entrepreneurs. Akshata was particularly taken by our pupil’s ‘Pearl Experience’ and passion for ocean preservation. Her business supports a charity called the PADI Aware Foundation to help protect the marine environment. She became very keen on this after she became a certified PADI Open Water diver during the last half-term.

Sam Rogerson, the founder of Children’s Business Fair UK commented: ‘This Parsons Green Prep pupil is an outstanding young entrepreneur and proved an excellent ambassador to her school. She’s a true demonstration of what’s possible when young people are given the chance to lead, create and shine.’

Congratulations to her from the whole school!

Join the Kew

The sun was shining for Year 6’s trip to Kew Gardens. We went to an exhibition of botanical drawings and the pupils did some sketching. We then did a workshop where they collected leaves and petals to make a colour palette. We studied the plants and flowers and used oil pastels to draw them. Year 2 also went to Kew and did some drawing of leaves and plants which will hopefully inspire them for their art project this term. They did a workshop on Colour and Seasons. What a beautiful place to visit.

Brush those teeth

Early Years have been consolidating their understanding of what it means to have good personal hygiene. The children have been learning about the types of teeth they have and how to brush them properly. Good oral hygiene is important to establish early on in our lives and the Reception Class should be proud of how maturely they approached these sessions.

Year go back in time

Year 5 went back in time and explored life in Ancient Greece by visiting the British Museum. The day began with a tablet tour of the Parthenon. Using the British Museum’s excellent virtual reality software, the children explored the different parts of the Parthenon, recreated some of the famous statues, used virtual spray paint to colour the friezes and learnt key vocabulary from that time. In the afternoon Year 5 examined other artefacts from this period, including Greek pottery. It was a wonderful and very informative trip.
